Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a tribute to Nana Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, a former Secretary General of the New Patriotic Party, who passed on at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday evening.
In a tweet, Dr Bawumia said:” Sir John was a good man who truly paid his due to the Party. I will miss him. Rest in peace my good friend”.
Vice President Bawumia expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family.
“I spoke with Sir John only yesterday but little did I know that was our last conversation,” the Vice President wrote.
Nana Owusu Afriyie, popularly known in political circles as Sir John died on Wednesday, evening at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
Mr Freddie Blay, the National Chairman of the NPP, confirmed his passing to the media in Accra, on Wednesday night.
Until his demise, Sir John was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission.
He reportedly succumbed to complications of the respiratory disease while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
He was appointed as the CEO of the Forestry Commission in March 2017 by President Akufo-Addo.
Sir John has become the second government appointee after Mr K.K.Sam, former Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor, to have succumbed to the deadly disease.
