Huawei, Tigo and the Union present the ‘2014 MUSIGA Grand Ball’ – which the Union promises to be a night of comedy, music and network connection. This year, the ‘Ball’ is geared at raising funds to support the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund and the MUSIGA Academy.
The ‘Grand Ball’ which will take place at the Banquet Hall, State House, is expected to witness performances from Amakye Dede, A.B. Crenstil, Paapa Yankson, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena, Efya, Tagoe Sisters, Smart Nkansah, No Tribe, Noble Nketsiah and the likes of KSM and DKB will deliver comedy. Musical items from many of the artistes will also be auctioned to help raise more funds for the project.
In 2011, MUSIGA promised that the purpose of the ‘Ball’ was to help set up a fund, the MUSIGA Music Development Fund (MIDF); a fund that was supposed to help execute programs aimed at putting in place structures to make the business of music worthwhile and will ultimately help the Ghanaian music industry attract the needed investments.
Key areas the fund was to assist included artistes and talent development, music business education and ICT, and the establishment of record labels to help market Ghanaian music globally. In the long term, MUSIGA anticipated to sue some proceeds from the fund to set up Music Industry Development Centers (MIDC) in all MUSIGA regional offices to provide information and other assistance to musicians in the various regions.
