Presidential hopeful, Nana Akufo-Addo, has urged Ghanaians to use the Eid ul-Adha spirit of Islam to make sacrifices for Ghana’s progress.
In a statement to wish Muslims well ahead of the celebration, the two-time presidential candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party said: “May we all take advantage of this month to pray for the success of our country and to pledge to do all in our power to contribute to the forward movement of Ghana, including our ability to sacrifice for the progress of our motherland”.
Eid ul-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience of Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, as a sign of love and submission.
“I pray that the spirit of sacrifice that goaded Prophet Ibrahim to accept God’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael will continue to animate our activities and dealings with one another as faithfuls of God and as citizens of Ghana”, Akufo-Addo said.
The statement said: “The month of Zhul-Hijja, in which the Hajj and Eid activities take place, is one of Islam’s holiest months”.
“I therefore pray for peace and unity between us as we reflect on the life of one of the most obedient servants of God. Once again, I wish all Muslims a happy Eid celebration. Eid ul-Mubarak!”
