Effective Monday, August 18, 2025, all licensed gold buyers have been directed to issue official receipts from the Ghana GoldBod for every transaction.

This requires that licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers are all supposed to use GoldBod-issued receipt booklets in the purchase and sale of gold.

This is part of the Ghana Gold Board’s enforcement drive in a bid to tighten regulation of the sector.

In a press statement the GoldBod explained that the receipts are now a critical condition for the validity of transactions and form part of wider efforts to curb unregulated trade.

To ensure compliance, GoldBod has deployed a taskforce and field inspectors nationwide. Licensed buyers are expected to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate fully with monitoring teams.

The Board has also urged small-scale miners and gold traders to insist on the issuance of receipts for every purchase, warning that failure to comply will be treated as a serious offence. Sanctions for offenders may include suspension or outright revocation of trading licences.

The GoldBod has further advised licensed buyers who lack receipt booklets to contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit for assistance.
