The Winneba Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 50 year old man Kwabena Solomon, a native of Gomoa Panfokrom, to a total fine of GHC780.00 for degrading treatment; and assault.
The court presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, ordered Solomon to pay GHC360.00 on a charge of assault and in default serve three months in prison in hard labour; and GHC420.00 or in default, serve four months in prison in hard labour.
The sentences would run concurrently.
Additionally Solomon, who is a farmer/trader, is to pay GHC500.00 as compensation to the complainant, whom he forced to eat faeces.
Narrating the facts of the case before the court, Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie said the complainant was a 15-year old student living in Gomoa Techiman.
The prosecution said on May 2014, at about 2200 hours, the complainant visited his friend at Gomoa Panfokrom and developed a stomachache, which compelled him to visit a public toilet.
However, the prosecution said the complainant realized on his way that he could not make it to the public toilet so he decided to find a place to ease himself.
According to the prosecution the complainant rushed to an uncompleted building close to the accused person’s drinking Bar, picked a polythene bag and eased into it.
Detective Sgt. Agbelie said when the accused saw the complainant in building, he charged on him and forced him to carry the polythene bag with the faeces and maltreated him.
He said in the process, the polythene bag got torn and some of the faeces poured on the ground in front of the accused person’s drinking bar.
The prosecution said on the third day after the incident, at about 1400 hours, the accused person went to where the complainant was and dragged him to the place he defecated and forced him to eat some of the faeces on the ground and afterwards gave him water to drink.
The matter was, subsequently, reported to the police.
