Two police officers of the Ghana Police Service: Lance Corporal Akwasi Boateng and Stephen Kyeremehare reported missing in the Oda River at Korbro in the Obuasi Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, they were having some criminals who had allegedly perpetrated a crime were on the run and boarded a canoe to cross the river.
The police officers who were left with no option decided to pursue these criminals by joining a canoe also. However, they were four in number which clearly was more than the capacity of the canoe.
Therefore, midway through the journey, the canoe capsized and these officers had to battle for their lives.
Reports had it that only two of these four officers were able to make it ashore as the other two are said to be drowned and missing.
The Oda River is said to be as big as River Pra and River Offin and serves as Ghana Water Company Limited’s source of treated water for the Obuasi Municipality.
