Construction work on a modern market for the Hohoe Municipality under the auspices of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP) is scheduled to begin in a fortnight.

The project, estimated cost of GHC 8 million, forms part of World Bank support to the Assembly- one of the best performing Assemblies in the country.

It would also have 106 stores, 144 sheds, a warehouse, a crèche, a health post, police and fire posts when completed in nine months.

Mr Andrews Teddy Ofori, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who cut the sod for construction work to begin, said performance under his tenure for the Assembly was incredible especially in infrastructure development.

He commended management, technical team and staff of the Assembly for their hard work and cooperation, resulting in implementing vital programmes to improve lives of the citizenry.

Mr Ofori called on the residents to support the Assembly to execute more development projects in the Municipality and urged contractors to complete the project within the stipulated period.

The MCE said understanding has been reached with stakeholders to avoid issues of allocation difficulties on the completion of the project.

Three construction firms have been awarded rights to build the edifice namely, J.A Biney&Co Limited, constructing 144 sheds, warehouse, police post, fire, health and creche; De-Mork Constructions firm, building 62 lockable stores; and Crown of Victory Constructions, 44 lockable stores.

Mr Cash Nii Dodoo, General Manager, J.A Biney& Co Limited, on behalf of the firms pledged their commitment to executing the project according to specification and on time.

Togbe Adzofuwusu IV, Divisional Chief of Gbi-Atabu, expressed gratitude to government and the Assembly for the project, which would bring a face-lift to the Municipality and urged the contractors to fast track the construction process.

Madam Doris Amu, President of the Hohoe Market Women Association, expressed gratitude for the project adding that it would not only improve trading in the area but also end the perennial problems associated with space allocations at the market.

Togbe Kutor, Divisional Chief of Ahado, appealed to the contractors to engage local artisans and the youth when work begins.

Madam Edith Dakpo, a trader, told the Ghana News Agency the construction would greatly aid them in getting the space to do business and to keep their wares.
