Police in the Central Region are investigating a case in which a 41-year-old man, identified as Wahibu Bukari, allegedly shot his wife, 35-year-old Faustina Ackom, during a domestic dispute at Anum in the Assin North District.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday after Bukari reportedly confronted his wife over suspicions of infidelity. Faustina sustained gunshot wounds to her left arm and breast and is currently receiving medical care at St. Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
The couple, who have been married for a decade and share four children, were said to have been arguing shortly after midnight. According to neighbours, Bukari accused his wife, a trader, of having extramarital affairs after he discovered phone numbers on her mobile device.
Eyewitness Lydia Yeboah recounted that the confrontation escalated around 12:30 a.m. when Bukari woke Faustina to question her. In the heat of the argument, the suspect allegedly fired at her as she attempted to escape. “We heard her shouting for help around 1:00 a.m.,” Yeboah told reporters, adding that neighbours rushed to her aid after hearing the gunshots.
Bukari fled the scene immediately after the attack and has not yet been apprehended. Residents believe he may have sought refuge in nearby towns such as Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Officers from the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command have since visited the victim in hospital to assess her condition and collect information to aid their investigations. Authorities say a manhunt has been launched to track down the suspect.
