A former National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd) has kicked against the strike action by labour unions.

A perplexed Gen. Nunoo Mensah stated on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, “I don’t see why labour unions are striking, I think they have enough time to sit at home and tell Ghanaians that they are no more working, but I don’t have that time. They are really wasting resources in the country.”

24-Hour Economy Authority Says Over $8bn in Bankable Agreements Signed in 90 Days

Twelve unions embarked on a nationwide strike on October 22 to protest what they say is government’s failure to pay their tier two pension funds into a private trustee account.

Government has since obtained a court order compelling the workers to go back to work, and is also seeking interpretation of the Pensions Act, 766.

The labour unions however insist they have not received any court order and would defy it until their demands are met.

Nevertheless, the former Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces has expressed disappointment that public sector workers go on strike to press home their demands.

“Ghanaians are indisciplined, they don’t know how to focus on the future but all they know is to think about their selfish interest. We need to show examples for the future leaders to emulate and not to be embarking on strike. It won’t help,” he stated.
