The Criminal Investigation Department in the course of investigation on Monday 22nd June, 2020 arrested two persons involved in the demolition of a building on the premises of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.
The suspects involved in the act, according to the CID have been charged with the offences of Conspiracy to Commit Crime to wit; Unlawful Entry and Causing Unlawful Damage contrary to sections 23( l), l52 and l72(lb) respectively of the Criminal and Other offences Act, 1960(Act 29) and will be arraigned before Court.
In a statement, the CID urged the public to remain calm and continue to assist by furnishing the Police with timely and factual information.
On the other hand, the Osu Traditional Council is claiming ownership of the part of land on which the property has been built on.
In a statement, the Osu Stool noted that it has title to the parcel of land on which the building belonging to the Nigerian High Commission is sited.
It explained that the Stool tried to stop the developers severally but all attempts to stop them proved futile, hence the demolishing.
Meanwhile, President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has apologised to the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari for the unfortunate incident and instituted investigations into the matter.
