ECG Power Cuts Are Back: The Full Schedule for the Next 7 Days

The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced planned power outages affecting communities across five regions, running from June 8 through June 15. If you live or run a business in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Western or Volta region, you need to plan ahead.

ECG says the outages are necessary to carry out maintenance work and infrastructure upgrades on the national grid, particularly ahead of the rainy season when weather-related faults become more frequent. The company has urged customers to exercise patience and take necessary precautions — storing water, switching off sensitive electronics before the cut begins, and avoiding the use of candles near flammable materials.

The announcement has drawn the predictable mix of resignation and frustration on social media, where many Ghanaians noted that planned or not, power cuts carry real costs: food spoilage, disrupted school and work schedules, damaged appliances when power returns with a surge, and losses for small businesses that cannot afford generator fuel.

Ghana’s power situation has improved considerably since the worst years of “dumsor,” but the persistence of scheduled outages is a reminder that the grid remains fragile even as the broader economy strengthens. The energy infrastructure required to sustain 4–6% GDP growth does not yet match the ambition of the growth projections themselves.

ECG has published the full schedule on its official platforms. Residents are advised to check the schedule for their specific area and sub-station, as cut times vary by location.
