New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyiaso, Richard Anane is questioning the mental status of his colleague parliamentarian, Kenneday Agyapong for alleging that he was planning to poison the party’s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.
In his estimation, recent comments by the Assin North MP give him cause to believe that he [Ken] “needs psychiatric treatment”.
Ken Agyapong, incensed by recent bickering in the party accused Mr. Anane and former Chief of Staff. Kwadwo Mpiani of masterminding a palace coup within the NPP.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station, Okay FM, the outspoken Assin North MP alleged that the two [Anane and Mpiani] whom he claims are partisans of flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen are doing everything within their power to ensure Akufo-Addo does not become the party’s flagbearer.
Reacting to the allegation on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Richard Anane called the bluff of his party man.
He described it as “frivolous and childish” the allegation being leveled against him because “I have a very cordial relationship with Akufo-Addo.
“Blaming other people for your shortfall should be the last thing anyone should do. People don’t know anything they just sit down and say what they like; we want power and that is what we are all working towards” he stressed.
The Nhyiaso MP said he together with the former Chief of Staff has better things to do with their time than to hatch such an evil plan.
“Are we God? Did he [Ken] think before talking? Does he know the things we have done for Akufo-Addo since 2008” He should not to take our leniency to be our weakness”.
Richard Anane added that the ultimate goal of any NPP member is to see the party back to power irrespective of who is flagbearer and “that is the cause I’m also championing”.
The soft spoken MP indicated that he has been angered by such reckless comments for so long but has remained quiet due to “my love for the NPP but I think it is time to act”.
Richard Anane said he will consider a legal action to ensure Ken Agyapong proves the allegation.
