Nana Yaw Adu-Larbi, a teacher, has been sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a five- year old girl at Gbawe, a suburb of Accra.

Adu-Larbi, 24, pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava after the trial found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant, 46 is the father of the victim.

ASP Acquah said the convict is a teacher in the victim’s school. On January 14, at about 1500 hours the victim, a KG two pupil after closing from school, waited for the school vehicle to take her home when suddenly, she felt like urinating.

Prosecution said the victim therefore went to urinal at the nursery section of the school, and when the victim entered the washroom, Adu-Larbi followed up and had sex with her.

ASP Acquah said the convict warned the victim not to disclose her ordeal to anyone.

The victim, however, started bleeding and her pant was soaked with blood.

The prosecutor said at about 1700 hours same day, the victim met her mother’s friend known as Akua who was washing her clothes and she pleaded with her to remove her pant because she was feeling uncomfortable.

ASP Acquah said to Akua’s surprise the victim’s pants was soaked with blood. Akua informed the victim’s mother who sent her to Lapaz Community Hospital where the doctor after examining her, pointed out that she has been defiled.

During interrogation, prosecution said the victim mentioned Adu-Larbi as the culprit.

The medical doctor therefore referred the victim to the Police Hospital where she underwent further treatment and later discharged.

ASP Acquah said a complaint was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of Ghana Police Service at Odorkor and Adu-Larbi was arrested.
