Two foreigners arrested for printing fake currency notes

The police have arrested two persons over their alleged involvement in the production of fake currency notes in Accra.

The two suspects are foreigners. They have been identified as Kamara Seidu, a Liberian, and Judith Koadue, a Camerounian. All two are 40 years.

At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of counterfeit GH¢50 notes and pieces of paper cut to the size of the GH¢50 note.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, the suspects were picked up at a hotel along the Baatsona-Spintex Road upon a tip-off.

Mrs. Tenge said the team which made the arrest retrieved several types of equipment used in the production of the fake currency notes.

The items included two bottles of a liquid substance, a white polyethene bag containing some washing powder, cotton wool, and gloves all suspected to be items used in processing the fake currency notes.

The police detected that at least nine pieces of GH¢50 notes retrieved were also fake.

The police also retrieve a pair of scissors, a cutter, 88 pieces of paper, cut into sizes of GH¢50; two bottles containing a liquid substance; two rolls of Sellotape; two bundles of white polythene bags ; and 60 sheets of paper, all suspected to be materials used in producing the fake money from a search in the suspects Nii Boi Town residence in Accra

DSP Tenge said a preliminary investigation conducted revealed that the suspects were fraudsters, who swindled their victims under the guise of doubling their money.

In the process, the fraudsters take genuine currency notes from their victims only to give them counterfeit with claims their monies have been doubled.
