The Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, has denied media reports that he is at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle bu Teaching Hospital, after contracting COVID-19.

“My attention has been drawn to messages circulating on social media to the effect that I am in ICU after testing positive to COVID-19, sending worrying signals and misinformation to my well-wishers and party faithful.

“I must categorically state that I am not in ICU, neither am I in Korle bu at the moment,” a statement he issued said.

The Tema West MP admitted he had tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago and had visited the hospital for review.

“I was admitted for an overnight review on my COVID status at the isolation centre at Korle-Bu yesterday around 5 PM and discharged at 11 AM this morning (July 2, 2020).

The statement further said “I’ve not in any way been taken ill or suffer any serious breakdown to send me into ICU. I ask all and sundry to disregard this hollow speculation and confirm I am as fit as I used to be”.

Media reports were rife that the Tema West MP was battling for his life at Ghana’s biggest referral hospital.

The reports also said the campaign manager for the NPP, Peter Mac Manu had also been admitted at the ICU of Korle bu.

The reports went viral after CEO of the Forestry Commission, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie succumbed to COVID-19 Wednesday night at Korle bu.

Mr. Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John was the former General Secretary of the NPP.
