The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ordered the leadership of the party to focus on national issues bothering Ghanaians and refrain from the needless internal bickering and squabbling.

The directive from the Elders followed recent disturbances in the party as a result of the alleged unilateral decisions taken by General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong to remove some serving officers from post, particularly, the acting Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto.

Incensed by the development, some hooligans thought to be supporters of the party, invaded the headquarters and disrupted a news conference being addressed by the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Tuesday.

Following the disturbances, Elders of the party on Thursday summoned an emergency meeting with all elected party officers to deliberate on the issues and ordered an urgent meeting of the Steering Committee by Monday August 25, 2014 to iron out their differences.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of the National Council of Elders, a release jointly signed by of the Elders; Hackman Owusu-Agyemang and Ambassador Adjei-Barwuah, stated.

The release said “All Party Officers, Functionaries and Communicators should desist from making public statements relating to current internal party issues”.

“The Council of Elders directed that the embargo on press statements also include the electronic and social media and that anyone who violates this stipulation will be subject to the full application of the Party’s disciplinary procedures”.

The statement reiterates the NPP’s determination to ensure that “the party remains united and focused to organize to secure a change in the administration of this country to alleviate the hardships of the good citizens of Ghana”.
