New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen says his eyes are fixed on leading the opposition party to the 2016 election and will therefore not give up that dream.

There have been calls from some elders and supporters of the NPP for Alan to withdraw from the October 18 primaries to select a flagbearer following the humiliating defeat handed him by Nana Akufo-Addo despite placing second in the contest.

However, Mr. Kyerematen in a release issued Wednesday, said results of last Sunday’s National Delegates’ Conference clearly indicate the belief of the NPP fraternity that he is capable of leading the party to the 2016 elections.

“Ahead of the October 18th primary, I reaffirm my resolve to provide a leadership that will provide the drive for a strong, united and peaceful party for victory in 2016,” he declared.

He added that: “I take this charge very seriously and assure our party members that I will do all within my power, and by the Grace of the Almighty God, not to let them down”.

While congratulating the party people and the other contestants, Mr. Kyerematen called for unity and oneness as the NPP is determined to recapture power come 2016.

“As we enter the next stage of the process that will lead to the final selection of one presidential candidate, I ask all our party faithful for their continued and unflinching support, as we march for victory in 2016”.

The former Trade Minister trailed two-time flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo by obtaining 59 votes against 598 votes earned by the latter in the contest that saw the number of aspirants cut down from seven to five.

Those who joined Akufo-Addo and Alan are: Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey; MPs, Francis Addai Nimoah and Kofi Osei Ameyaw.

Former ministers; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and Stephen Asamoah Boateng however, kissed their presidential ambition goodbye, after securing the least votes.

On Monday, Mr. Joe Ghartey announced on Adom FM that he was no longer interested in contesting the position although he made the top five.
