Sudatel did not disclose the buyer, but said the sale of shares in the Ghana operation was concluded in the second quarter.

In 2013, the company had exclusive sales negotiations with Ghana’s Jospong Group, but the deal fell through due to a conflict of interest.

Jospong is the mother company for Subah Infosolutions, a company which audits telecom firms in Ghana, so cannot legally buy a telecom company in Ghana.

Expresso Ghana’s MD Ahmed El Amir told Adom Business then that the company had several interested buyers.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s National Communication Authority said it had no official communication from Sudatel or Expresso Ghana about the sale.

Expresso is Ghana’s only CDMA operator and has been suffering for a while due to the inability of Sudatel to recapitalize the company.

Sudatel is handicapped by international sanctions on Sudan, because of which they are unable to move money outside of Sudan.
